Itinerary Details

Day 1: Rongai Gate (2000 m) To Simba Camp (2670 m)

  • Pickup from the hotel in Moshi and drive to Rongai gate for registration process
  • Initiate the climb through maize and coffee plantations leading into the dense rainforest
  • The trail finally leads to Simba camp
  • Set camp for an overnight stay

Day 2: Simba Camp (2670 m) To Kikelewa Camp (3600 m)

  • Hike from the rainforest into the moorland zone while noticing changes in vegetation
  • The  trail leads to second cave to have a lunch break
  • Proceed with the climb to arrive at Kikelewa camp in the evening
  • Dinner and overnight stay at the camp

Day 3: Kikelewa Camp (3600 m) To Mawenzi Tarn (4335 m)

  • Hike into the Alpine zone for a short but steep climb towards the Mawenzi tarn
  • Arrive in the afternoon in time for lunch
  • Have the rest of the day off resting and gaining energy for the next day
  • Set camp for an overnight stay

Day 4: Mawenzi Tarn (4335 m) To Kibo Hut (4720 m)

  • Climb gradually through the Saddle formed between beautiful peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi
  • Proceed with the trail while displaying beautiful views of kibo
  • Arrive at Kibo hut in the evening for dinner and overnight stay
  • Take as much rest and water upon arrival to prepare your body for the final summit
  • It’s recommended to sleep early by 19:00

Day 5: Ascend To Uhuru Peak (5895 m)

  • Wake up around 23:00 for adding more warm clothes and headlamps
  • Leave the camp and start summiting by midnight into the glacial zone
  • The path leads to Stella point (5756 m)after a6 hour walkto arrive at sunrise
  • Have time for photographs and a little rest while at the summit
  • For climbers who have experienced AMS are advised to start descending, however for those interested can take a round trip along the crater rim to reach Uhuru Peak (5895 m)
  • Proceed by descending down the mountain to arrive at Mweka Hut (3100 m)

Day 6: Mweka Camp (3100 m) to Mweka Gate (1640 m)

  • After a hot breakfast, continue hiking through the beautiful green forest to arrive at Mweka gate
  • Take time to show gratitude to the crew by tipping guides, cooks and porters
  • Get awarded with certificates whereby golden certificates are given to hikers who reached Uhuru peak and green certificates for Stella point hikers
  • Retreat back to Mweka village for a drive to Moshi town for resting or airport for a flight back home
