Itinerary Details

Day 1: Marangu Gate (1800 m) To Mandara Hut (2720 m)

  • Transfer from your accommodations in Moshi to reach Marangu gate for registration
  • Start ascending the mountain with guides, porters and cooks through the tropical rainforest of coffee and maize plantations
  • Continue with the trail to reach Mandara Hut which provides accommodations like dining halls and toilets
  • Dinner and overnight stay at the hut

Day 2: Mandara Hut (2720 m) To Horombo Hut (3720 m)

  • Hike through the rainforest for first stunning views of Kibo and Mawenzi
  • Proceed into the moorland zone which will lead you to Horombo Hut to arrive in the afternoon
  • Dinner and overnight stay at the camp

Day 3: Horombo Hut Full Board

  • Leave after breakfast towards Mawenzi hut which is meant for acclimatization allowing your body getting used to high altitude
  • Return to the camp in the late afternoon for a hot lunch
  • Take the rest of the day off resting and gaining energy for the next day

Day 4: Horombo Hut (3720 m) To Kibo Hut (4720 m)

  • Climb through the alpine desert into the saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks
  • The trail leads to Kibo Hut to arrive in the mid-day
  • Take the rest of the day off resting and gaining energy for the final summit
  • It’s advised to sleep as early as 19:00

Day 5: Kibo Hut (4720 m) To Uhuru Peak (5895 m) To Horombo Hut (3720 m)

  • Wake up around 23:00 for adding more warm clothes and headlamps
  • Leave the camp and start summiting by midnight into the glacial zone
  • The path leads to Gilman’s point (5681 m)after a6 hour walkto arrive at sunrise
  • Take another 1:30 hrs to Uhuru Peak (5895 m) the roof of Africa
  • Have time for photographs and a little rest while at the summit
  • After resting for awhile, start the descending to finally arrive Horombo hut
  • Dinner and overnight stay at the camp

Day 6: Horombo Hut (3720 m) To Marangu Gate (1800 m)

  • Leave from the moorland environment, heading towards Mandara Hut for some rest
  • Proceed with the trail to reach the final destination at Marangu gate
  • Upon arrival, show appreciation to the team by tipping guides, porters and cooks
  • Get awarded with certificates whereby golden certificates are given to hikers who reached Uhuru peak and green certificates for Gilman’s point hikers
  • Drive back to Moshi for hot shower and much celebrations
